It’s a license renewal year! Make sure you know what to do.
It’s a license renewal year! That means your real estate license expires June 30, 2017, and that you must meet your education requirements and renew by then.
The Indiana Real Estate Commission requires broker licensees to complete 12 hours of continuing education* each year of their three-year renewal cycle in order to maintain their license. A year in CE terms is July 1 – June 30. By June 30, 2017, you should have completed and be able to provide documentation for 36 total hours in the event you are selected for the audit process. Managing brokers must concurrently complete four hours of managing broker education annually, for a total of 12 of the 36 hours.
The Indiana professional Licensing Agency sent notifications around March 20, on how to renew. However, you can’t renew until you have actually completed all of your hours. That means if you are attending the Indiana Commercial Real Estate Conference to get your 12 hours, you will need to wait until you have your certificate to complete the process.
*If your license was issued after June 30, 2014, you have a different set of requirements.
New licensees (any broker who obtained their license after June 30, 2014) are required to complete 30-hours of post-licensing education within the first two years of licensure. ICBR does not offer post-licensing education. The 30-hours must include education in the following areas in the time allocation listed:
- Indiana Real Estate Transactions – 6-hours
- Financing – 6-hours
- Business Planning/Sales and Marketing – 10-hours
- Negotiating and Counseling – 5-hours
- Cultural Diversity and Fair Housing – 1-hour
