David Nugent, CCIM, SIOR
Each month, ICBR honors one of its members as Member of the Month. This month, we recognize a member of the ICBR Professional Development Committee, David Nugent, CCIM, SIOR. David was ICBR President in 2011, and was honored as REALTOR® of the Year in 2012.
The ICBR Professional Development Committee develops the program and onsite support for the annual Indiana Commercial Real Estate Conference.
ICBR: Why are you an ICBR member? What do you look to gain out of membership?
Nugent: I am an ICBR member because I believe there is more to this profession than my next deal. ICBR is an organization of top people in our industry, mostly volunteers, who are committed to leaving this profession better than the way they found it.
ICBR: What designations/awards/recognition have you received?
Nugent: Designations: CCIM and SIOR. Awards: 2012 Indiana Commercial REALTOR® of the Year, 2012 Greater Fort Wayne Chamber Small Business of the Year (BND Commercial). Recognition: ICBR Past President.
ICBR: How did you start your career in commercial real estate?
Nugent: I applied to an ad in the paper. I didn’t know anything about real estate. I’m not sure I know much more today.
ICBR: Do you have any mentors? If so, who? How has he/she inspired you?
Nugent: There are two people I hold in highest regard, and look to learn from every minute we’re together. One demonstrated patience and virtue in the world of commercial real estate. The other shows how our personal lives are meant to be lived.
ICBR: What is the most important thing you have learned by working in commercial real estate?
Nugent: It’s a lot of fun being at the doorway to new businesses coming in. But we aren’t as important as we think we are. We perform a task and then our clients do the real work. But, if we do it well, we might get asked to do it again someday.
ICBR: Do you have any special skills, interests or hobbies?
Nugent: Being involved in my daughters’ interests, projects, etc., including coaching both of their basketball teams. I ran the Chicago Marathon in October 2011, the longest day of my life. I like taking long rides on my Harley. I love shooting sports, trap, skeet, tactical – anything that makes a loud bang.
